The first written reference of the village is from 1075.

The village of Strekov is located in the southern part of Slovakia, in the region of Nitra, in the district of Nové Zámky, between Nové Zámky and Štúrov. The area of the village is 4105 ha. The population is 2,080. With its 300 ha of vineyards, the village is one of the important centers of viticulture and winemaking in Slovakia.

Strekov belongs to the South Slovak region, which is one of the six Slovak wine-growing regions. It is the largest wine-growing region in Slovakia with an area of 5463 ha. The South Slovak wine-growing region includes 8 wine-growing areas and 112 wine-growing municipalities.

Strekov winegrowing region includes winegrowing villages from Mužla to Dvory nad Žitavou. In the center of the region you can find the Strekovské vineyards, which are located on the southwestern hillsides at an altitude of 200-240 m. above the sea level.
